Saturday recap

Today was Saturday the 27th of September, heretofore known as Michael Davis Day, in honor of his visit. It’s not everyday someone that good-looking just waltzes into town.

In other exciting news, I got to watch Kristie coach her first White Squad game tonight at the BYU vs. Air Force volleyball game. She’s a pro and the team looked great. I’m really proud of how she’s stepped into this role, she really puts a lot of time and heart into what she does.

No football game this week…bye-week for the Cougars. Major withdrawls.

Sushi and Hancock

Nathan and Kendra joined us for a little sushi-and-movie date night tonight. I was debating whether we should rent Memoirs of a Geisha to keep with the Japanese theme, but then decided against it, since my sushi is about as authentic as the Chinese cast members of Memoirs. Instead we saw the half-good Hancock at the dollar theater.

I wish we got a good picture of N&K too, but they ended up with the camera while our hands were busy with the rolls. The evening got particularly exciting as we all had some “death by wasabi” close encounters.

Vizad BBQ

That’s my “V” for Vizad

Jen and Preston hosted another company BBQ/shindig at their new house in Lehi tonight. We got to eat, mix and mingle while wii boxing and discussing some exciting business–the beta launch of or much anticipated LotusJump SEO tool. It’s gonna be big I tellz ya.

Game 4: Wyoming @ BYU (and weekend recap)

Friday night we went out with Houston, Amanda, Leah and her date (Houston’s bro) to The Mayan in SLC. The place was enormous…complete with live cliff divers as part of the restaurant’s “Mayan adventure” theme.

On Saturday we got to witness the Cougars shut out the Cowboys 44-0 at Lavell Edwards Stadium. It was beautiful. It was also the first time we sat in our actual seats, since we had sideline passes for the first two home games. Our seats are located on the west side, pretty far up…but they give you a terrific view of the field. Another benefit is that, due to the press box, we’re the first to get shade from the sun during the sweltering afternoon games.

Saturday night we went out with Grant and his date, who turned out to be Tracy, the younger sister of my longtime friend, Jody Farnsworth. Small world.

Sunday we cooked an amazing pork roast for 8 hours and ate like kings (thanks AJ). And to top off the evening we dropped by Harry and Sarah’s pizza night for a couple slices (who could resist?) and Dan in Real Life.

Jess Junior’s B-Day Partay

Tonight a bunch of us went over to Jessica’s place for her birthday party. A good portion of it was spent hanging out and enjoying more College Football Saturday on the giant HD plasma. My kind of party!

HAPPY B-DAY JESS!

Game 3: UCLA @ BYU

We destroyed UCLA, 59-0. It was unbelievable. Such a great gameday, all around.

Since we had field passes again, I was able to catch sideline action with Kristie and some good buddies. Here’s a shot with me, Kristie and Ryan after the win:

A few hours after the game we met up with Andrew, Jesseca Robertson and Keith back at the empty stadium to enjoy a couple of Brick Oven pizzas c/o our fav Cougar.

Mexi Night

Before heading off to the Mexi date-night that Harry and Sarah had been planning, Kristie and I got to meet up with a bunch of her Eagle friends for dinner at Costa Vida. It was great catching up with all of them…they’re a blast.

After the get-together we headed to the Colony for Harry’s homemade salsa & enchiladas and Sarah’s homemade horchata. The food was terrific (we made sure to leave plenty of room). Here’s a shot of Dan, Harry and Sarah:

To top off the evening’s entertainment we watched a Mexican film entitled La misma luna, or Under the Same Moon. If you tend to enjoy foreign films, I’d check it out…definitely worth watching.

Hillarious “mormon mommy blogspot” parody

Perhaps I’m the last one to come across this site, but in case i’m not, I just had to share.

Before I direct you to the blog, let me give you a little taste (to help put it in context). Here is the “about me” section:

“Hi everybody!!! My name is Tiffany/Amber/Megan/Nicole and I am married to Jordan/Jason/Wes/Taylor, and we have non-stop fun all the time and are LOVING married life! We are super busy but we still love to make time for fun stuff and we just love being married and living our awesome lives. I LOVE crafts (especially Stampin’ Up! and homemade jewelry) and he loves sports. I went to hair school/teach 2nd grade and now we are going to law/dental/business/medical school! So hard! But being in law/dental/business/medical school is really fun for me because there are tons of wive’s clubs like bridge club, book club, walking club. Pretty awesome! Love you guys!! If you have anything you want me to blog about, puh-LEASE let me know!”

And an illustration of the aforementioned family:

The stereotypes hit so close to home, and they are just too funny. I figure its healthy to laugh at ourselves every once and a while, right? Without further ado:

Game 2: BYU @ UW

Saturday afternoon Jeremy and Kedra hosted their “Tubular Back To School BBQ” at Rock Canyon Park. I wish I had taken pictures, it was a beautiful day and some of my favorite people were there. I, unfortunately, was feeling awful…really nauseated from my long run earlier that morning. Despite this fact, I couldn’t resist the cheddy-brat that Justin brought…or the chips and salsa…or the corn on the cob…or the cantaloupe.

Bad move.

I remember what I ate so well because I puked it up about 20 minutes later on Nate and Katy’s lawn (where we went to watch the game). Yeah, gross, I know.

Anyways, on to the game: BYU and UW went back and forth the entire game and we ended up winning on a blocked PAT after a controversial call against UW for excessive celebration after a touchdown. I wish we could have won it on different terms, but a win is still a win, and rules are rules. It’s finally nice to be able to say that we beat a Pac-10 team on the road…it had been a while. I can’t wait for UCLA next week. I really, really, really hope we win that one too.

Tom’s 20 Mile Revisited

After one spoiled attempt, I finally got to do my 20 mile run. It’s such a relief to know that I won’t have to run that far again until the Marathon. And after that, perhaps never again!

Kristie met me along the way to give me water and encouragement. Even when I told her I was fine, that she could head home, she refused and continued to pop up along the path. It was a good thing too, as I felt pretty dehydrated at home, despite all the fluids I drank along the way.

My pace was pretty slow, partly because I experienced a wicked calf cramp around miles 10-14, and partly because I ran like a senior citizen for miles 15-20.

But I did it.

Now i’m just hoping that my knees will forgive me before race day.
