Around New Years, Kristie and I began thinking about how awesome it would be if we could find an apartment complex to manage in exchange for rent. After a few phone calls I had a couple leads, but the real breakthrough came when I got in touch with my good buddy Ryan, who works for (and lives at) Alpine Village. He informed me that a spot on the management team was opening up, so we hurried and got our resume’s in order to set up an interview.
To make a long story short, we got the job. Kristie works 15hrs/week in the office (when she’s not in class or coaching) and I do an hour of grounds/maintenance work each day before heading off my real job. We’re a bit busier now, but we love the place we’re living in. Since we were getting by okay when we had to pay rent, we now just transfer an extra $550 to savings each month. So yeah, we work more, but we’re saving more and our new pad is waaay nicer than our place at College Park.
