Here we go!
2:50am – Kristie wakes up with contractions and water breaks.
4:10am – We’ve timed over an hour of contractions, and they’re averaging about 4 minutes apart. Decide to head to the hospital.
4:20am – Arrive at the hospital, and pause for contractions three times on the way up to labor and delivery desk.
4:35am – Fill out paperwork and get shown to our (really nice) room.
4:40am – First nurse determines that Kristie is still only dialated to one and a half…looks like a long day ahead.
5:30am – Contractions are still pretty regular, Tom is shown to the father’s room with lots of free snacks.
6:00am -Fire up the laptop and Netflix account to watch episodes of 30 Rock between contractions.
7:45am – New nurse, Mandy, no progress with dilation.
8:30am – Dr Rees stopped by to check in and offer some advice. Duly noted, Doctor.
10:45am – Dr. Gammet stops by to say hello. He’s on call till 6:00pm tonight. Reaffirms that we have the nicest room in the whole hospital, with a view that “would cost a pretty penny if we were staying at the Marriot”
11:17am – Contractions seem to be getting stronger. Check for dilation set for 12:00.
12:00am – Update: Finally dilated to a 2, 90% effaced. Not fun, very strong contractions now, about 2 min apart.
12:32am – Kristie is now rockin’ out to Bloc Party with one earphone in. It’s her running mix. Very fitting. Contractions still very, very painful.
1:23pm – Dilated to a 3. I wish I could take the pain away.
2:09pm – 3.5.
3:07pm – After no sleep, 11 hours of labor and some excruciating contractions towards the end, Kristie opted to get a light epidural to ease some of the pain. We were planning to avoid this step if possible, but now that it’s done, I think we’re both pretty relieved. She can still move her legs and toes, which makes her feel a little more comfortable. Now it’s nap time for a bit…Doc’s guestimate for delivery is around 11pm our time. Baby’s heart rate is strong and steady, Kristie is now dilated to a 4. Thanks for all the thoughts, prayers and love.
3:25pm – Woohoo! Kristie has been able to relax some and is now at a 6.5. Big jump since last check…
5:22pm – At a 9 now…as soon as she’s at a 10 it’s time to push! Next check at 5:30ish
6:35pm – Pushing! I’ll be busy for the next little bit..
8:12pm – 6lbs 8oz, 20 inches…beautiful baby girl! Mom and daughter are doing great!!!!

Go Kristie Go!! How exciting for both of you. Thanks for posting this Tom. I’ve been wondering about you guys all day since I saw Andrew’s fb post. This sounds like a long painful labor… BEST of luck!! Can’t wait to hear the rest and see the pics :-)
Thinking of you guys and hoping all goes well. Please call if there’s anything we can do!!!
Oh Tom! I know exactly what she’s going through I went through 41 hours of labor with my first and 25 with my second. I hope it doesn’t last too much longer for her. If it goes much longer, please suggest she gets an epidural. They help SO much!
Good luck and congrats guys.
Good luck! Hopefully the epidural allows her body to relax some and keep things moving. Sometimes just relaxing moves everything along faster. We’ll keep you all in our prayers and hope to meet Lilah soon!
Hot diggity-dog! Fingers and toes crossed that it will be SOON !!!
XOXO
