Tanner Reunion Day 4

Today was a pretty low key day. Tom had to go back to work, and the rest of us spent some time relaxing and getting things packed up. Angela also did a photo-shoot with Lilah! Thanks again Ang! I love the pictures and can’t wait to get some printed for our house!

Lilah is such a sweet heart and such a mommies girl! I love this face that she makes when she is so happy but a little shy about it… She was laughing at her sweet cousins, who were trying to get her to smile for the camera.

This is her expression when she really likes or wants something. I often see it with soft things, or animals, but in this case it was a pretty necklace. She is such a girly girl already. She loves walking around with bracelets and necklaces on. Thanks again mom for the purse and bracelets… she loves them!

Lilah is such a happy girl (when she has had her nap). Her smile and laugh can always brighten my mood.

I love everything about this little girl… Looking at this picture just makes me want to wake her up from her nap right now and kiss those cute little cheeks and lips. I am so so grateful for you Lilah.

Houston and Becca had to take off around noon, and I’m grateful that they will be moving back to Provo soon for school in the fall. We miss having them around! Angela and Jeff and the kids were planning on leaving today as well, but decided to stick around one more night and just leave early in the morning. We were so happy they did! We stayed up talking and laughing for a long time. The next morning was sad… I hated saying goodbye to everyone else. Our house seems so quite and empty now. I am very much a people person and miss having people here more than I even realized I would. But we made lots of great memories and I am grateful for the time we had. I love you all and can’t wait to do this again.

Tanner Reunion Day 2

Sunday was a nice relaxing day. We have 9am church and I was surprised to pretty much get everyone there on time. I loved having family there with me in my ward! It was great to introduce them to my friends. Soon after we got home Houston and Becca arrived!! Yah! They drove in from Arizona.

We spent some of the afternoon watching old family videos, Mom and Dad gave us awesome gifts from their Navoo trip, and we took some family pictures.

Taking family pictures is usually quite an ordeal, but this time seemed to run more smoothly than normal. It didn’t take very long and the kids were pretty cooperative. It’s about time that Tom and I  and Lilah had our own little family picture, so I was very grateful that Angela was willing to take these for us! We love her pictures!

Delicious food was something we never had too little of this week, and there was plenty of sharing.

Boston/Marathon Trip

Back in October, Kristie and I ran the St. George marathon…she killed it, and it almost killed me. But, with her awesome time, she qualified to to run the Boston Marathon; the world’s oldest annual (and perhaps most prestigious) 26.2 mile course. What made this even cooler is that Boston is conveniently located 40 minutes southeast of my our place in Acton, MA…so we got to visit and spend time with my family leading up to the race.

We arrived Thursday afternoon and got a chance to go out to eat with my brother Coleman and my parents. Andrew had to be in NC competing at an equestrian event and couldn’t make it…we missed him like crazy. Friday we got a chance to swing by Walden pond and soak up some history and sun. In the afternoon we dropped Coleman and his buddy Matt off at South Station in Boston so they could embark on their spring break trip to Miami Beach, FL.  Besides a close call with the car overheating, everything was cool and they made it out ok. My aunt DD came by and surprised us with an Edible Arrangements gift for Kristie (fruit, a thoughtful and safe pre-marathon food). It tasted as great as it looked:

On Saturday, mom came with us to the pre-race expo in downtown Boston. There Kristie received her bib, timing chip and free shwag. While we were there, we picked up an official Boston Marathon jacket that Mom and Dad gave Kristie as a graduation present. She loves it…it looks awesome on her:

After church on Sunday, DD took us out in her new Yaris to check out the beginning of the course in Hopkinton to make sure that we’d be able to get Kristie to the starting line on time and beat the crazy traffic. Then, at 6:30 am on Monday we got up and got everything together for the race. We had the pleasure of travelling with Littleton’s bishop, Frank Gentile, who was running his second Boston Marathon–this time for charity. Here’s a shot of Kristie leaving the house:

At about 8:30 I dropped the pair off in Hopkinton so they could get to the starting line around 10:00 am. Then I drove back to Acton and we all departed for the finish line to wait for Kristie and the other runners to come by.

We got off around Kenmore square and walked a couple miles away from the finish line till the crowd thinned out a bit. From there we had a great view of the course and the runners that came pouring by in droves.

The air in Boston on Patriots day (a holiday for MA!) is electric. College kids, locals, and out-of-state visitors can’t help but get caught up in the exiting atmosphere surrounding the day’s big events. For a comical perspecitve on the race, check out Bill Simmons’ Idiots Guide to the Boston article (thanks for sending that over Ang!)

At around mile 24 of the course we watched the leading men, women and wheelchair athletes come roaring by. Kara Goucher was leading the pack for the women at that point and we all had high hopes that she’d take it (she didn’t, but still had a great showing at third). When Kristie came by we went nuts, ringing our cowbells, yelling and waving our signs. I think we actually startled her a little.

As soon as she passed us, we fought huge throngs of people to meet up with her at the finish line. She said the hills (Heartbreak and its nasty cousins), the crowded course, and strong headwinds were real challenges…but she did awesome, coming in at another Boston-qualifying time of 3:34. I’m amazed that she did so well after having lost so much training time to her nagging foot injury. It was so cool to be there to cheer her on…the race is so huge, and contains so many of the world’s best distance runners. If the qualifying time were a little more forgiving for my division, perhaps even I would consider it. It would be something incredible just to be a part of.

So congrats babe, you’re an inspiration to us all. Thanks to everyone that supported Kristie with calls, texts, emails and more…it meant the world to her!

20 Mile Run – Kristie

Kristie completed her 20 mile run today! I took a cooler with water bottles, some power bars and a book with me in the car and then met her at various points along the way. While waiting I’d read (Blood Meridian, Cormac McCarthy), and then play water boy when she approached.

She ran 8:06 splits for those 20 miles, in the heat of the late morning, no less. I’m set to run mine on Monday…if I don’t die by mile 16 I’ll be pleased.

Cape May Vacation

Today we got to spend a little time with Kristie’s family at our home before they had to leave for the airport. Kristie, Lacey and Sherri all went horseback riding for a while, and then we swam for a bit in the pool. After the Tanners departed, Kristie and I went for a jog and then spent the rest of the evening with family and friends.

Saturday morning we awoke early to pick up Coleman from EFY at UMASS Amherst, whereupon we hit the road in a jam-packed Ford Expedition to head to down to the Atlantic coast & Cape May.

My brother Andrew flew in from North Carolina on Sunday to complete the roster of: mom, dad, Tom, Kristie, Coleman, Andrew and our friend, Amanda.

On the way back home we got to catch up with Auntie Cathy for lunch in Philly, it was wonderful to see her!

Here’s a selection of photos from the five days of of beaches, bikes, boardwalks and other assorted fun:

Boston Open House

On July 30th Kristie and I went back east for a backyard open house hosted by my parents. Mom and Dad McConnon did a terrific job preparing everything for the event (thanks a million, we love you guys!)

The event itself was wonderful…thanks to all the friends and family that came to show their support. Here are a few pictures taken before, during and after the event:

Honeymoon

img_0612-800.jpg We’d originally planned on a romantic weekend getaway to McCall ID for a brief honeymoon, but after looking at pictures from a couple friends (Thanks Mac & Julie), I deiced that a cruise looked more fun. It didn’t take a lot of convincing to get Tom on board, so we booked a cruise with princess and a flight to Ft. Lauderdale (city of embarkation).

We had to find a flight that could leave after our reception in Eagle at 9pm on the 16th and arrive in Florida by 2pm on the 17th. Given the 2 hour time difference working against us this turned out to be no small feat. It turns out that there wasn’t a single flight leaving from the Boise airport that would get us there in time and the only flight we could find left from the Salt Lake City airport at 5:30 am the morning after the reception. This meant that immediately after the reception ended in Eagle, we had to jump into the car, pack as many gifts as possible, and high tail it down to SLC in time to catch the flight.

After a crazy day of travel we arrived in Ft. Lauderdale at 1:28pm, in time to catch a taxi to the boat. Though it may seem obvious to the seasoned traveler, people trying to help you flag a taxi, or carry luggage aren’t doing it out of the kindness of their hearts, they’re looking for a tip. Ohhh well.

The ship took a seven day course through the Eastern Caribbean with ports of call in the Bahamas and US Virgin Islands. What can I say? It was paradise. The beaches were unreal, the islands were beautiful, the food was never-ending, and the company wasn’t so bad either ;)

The ship was even equipped with an outdoor movie theater to watch movies under the Caribbean stars! Check out some of the highlights:

Wedding

img_0470-800.jpg

WE GOT MARRIED! The wedding was on February 15th in the Salt Lake Temple. We were lucky enough to catch a break in the weather and it turned out to be a sunny Friday morning. We are really grateful for all our family and friends that were able to be there! Thanks we love you guys! And for those reading this that weren’t able to make it, you were missed, and we love you too! Here are a few pictures from the wedding day.

After taking pictures with out photographer we headed to Bountiful for a luncheon that my Mom, and her sister put together for us. Thanks Girls!! The food was awesome… we even had little M&M’s with our names on them (Thanks Mom McConnon). For those of you who would like to see our wedding slide show (with better sound this time! Lol) we’ll try to post the video sometime.

The reception in Eagle was wonderful. We were humbled by how many friends and family stopped by to celebrate with us and our families. A special thanks to Kenny Tanner for his terrific work behind the lens.
