BYU Homecoming

I decided to run the BYU Homecoming 5k. I’ve always wanted to run it, but most years I was in the parade with the cheer squad. A 5k distance is definitely not my race, in fact it is only my 2nd 5k ever, but it’s fun to race no matter what distance it is. I went out too fast and died a little by the end. I ended up racing a 19:34 and taking 2nd in my age group. The top 3 overall (excluding BYU track athletes) received cash prizes. I thought I kept pretty good track of who was in front of me and finished the race thinking I’d won the $50, 3rd place prize, but I had missed a girl. I actually came in 9 seconds after the 3rd place girl & took 4th. I was a little bummed about that, but it wasn’t a big deal.

Lilah all bundled up at the race.

That night Tom and I were able to get tickets to the football game. The game started at 8:15pm! Lilah goes to bed between 8:30 and 9pm, so Lacey and Travis were nice enough to put her to bed for us so that we could go to the game. It was so nice to go out just the 2 of us. Tom is my favorite person in the world to be with, and we had a great time.

Tom got this amazing sweatshirt from my Dad for his birthday this year! Thanks again Dad!

AJ & I stunting at half time

We both went down onto the field at half time  and Tom took pictures of us in a cheerleading alumni performance. It was really fun to see a bunch of people that we spent so much time with. Thanks again AJ for stunting with me, and thank you BYU for pulling out another win and end our night on a positive note!

Back to School

I got to spend the day with Coleman going shopping for school/dorm supplies, playing flag football with the Manwarings and going out to eat at Tucano’s for lunch. Here’s a shot of Coleman looking right at home in the plateware isle of Walmart:

The best part is that he thinks he’s going to use one of those things his freshman year. Duh Coleman…pizza already comes in a box. And Cup O’ Noodles has a bowl built right in. He might need a pot for Ramen and Easy Mac now that I think about it though…

Cougar Kickoff ’09

We went with David Grant to the annual Cougar Kickoff by the IPF to meet up with old friends and get amped for the upcoming season of BYU sports. Here’s a couple pictures I took of Kristie with the old cheer gang:

Kristie’s Graduation (extended)

Woohoo!

So I got a chance to upload a couple of pictures while waiting for commencement to begin, but I wanted to fill in a few more details (and add a few more pictures) to elaborate on the day. Kristie’s mom and dad arrived Friday morning in Provo, and I was able to get off work at 1:30 so we could make it to graduation by 2:00. Up in the stands we were joined by Nathan and Kendra, so we had a pretty loud cheering section when Kristie’s name was called to receive her diploma (she graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Fitness and Wellness from BYU). After the ceremony, we connected with a few friends and took some pictures out behind the fieldhouse.

Thanks to everyone that sent cards, letters, emails, texts, well-wishes, etc…we’re so grateful for your love and support!

After the ceremony, the 6 of us headed up to Park City for dinner at Bangkok Thai on Main (what has become our ‘special occasion’ restaurant of choice). The food was fantastic, as was the company.

Right after dinner we headed up to Daniel and Sarah Turnbull’s wedding reception at the beautiful Monaco Hotel in SLC. They’re all-around awesome people–congrats guys!

Kristie’s Graduation!

Congrats to my grad, love you babe! Convocation is just beginning…

2009 Cheer Banquet

This was Kristie’s first BYU Cheer banquet as a coach, rather than a member of the team. She loves her White Squad and they love her back…it was pretty awesome to see how that group solidified over the year. Some really talented, cool kids…and a pretty awesome coach, if I do say so myself.

BYU Homecoming Weekend ’08

Homecoming was a blast this year…I’ll let some pictures do the talking.

On Friday night we went to a BYU cheer alumni dinner and connected with some good friends we hadn’t seen in a while. Here’s a great shot of April, Sandy, Kristie, Heather and David “Grant” Grant:

The next morning was the homecoming parade. Since Kristie had to be there with her squad, I decided to come along too, and we rode the entire thing on top of the Cosmobile along with a raucous party of Cougar United friends.

After the parade we headed off to Lavell Edwards Stadium where the Cougars were facing off with the UNM Lobos. As part of homecoming weekend, they had the Cheer alumni come out on the field at halftime and perform. I ran into a couple of the old-school Cosmo mascots who did a bang-up job dressing for the occasion and maintaining their secret identities:

And here are a few pictures from the half-time event:

Kristie looked awesome up there. If it weren’t for her herniated disc, she wouldn’t have anything to do with this alumni business for at least another year. She’s grateful for all that she got to do in three years, but it’s  tough because the injury happened right when she was at the top of her game. It takes some crazy athleticism to stunt like she does.

BYU won the game in a hard fought battle. Still undefeated…but they’ve got to start stepping it up if they want to finish 12-0. Go Cougars!

Regina In Paint

Kristie’s received an assignment from her humanities class to listen to a piece of music and use it as inspiration for an “abstract expressionist painting.” Gotta love general ed classes. She chose Regina Spektor’s lighthearted, quirky On The Radio (watch/listen on Youtube here.) The result?
