This weekend we took Coleman up to BYU-I in Rexburg. On Friday night we decided to spend the night at Grandpa and Grandma Haworth’s, where they treated us to dinner and some fun stories. Before taking off in the morning, we took the four-wheelers out for a ride, and saw the sunrise over their family farm. Really pretty.

Our next stop was Rexburg, ID, where we helped Coleman move in and set up. We met his roommate Dallan, a really cool kid from a town nearby. Here’s a shot of them from behind.

I didn’t want to feel like a mom on her kid’s first day of school, so I kept pictures to a minimum.

I think he lucked out with his housing situation…especially because one of his roomates has a TV about as big as me, with a sweet surround sound hookup. We got to spend some time with Lacey, who’s also a freshman up there, and the Tanner fam. I’m pretty sure they’re gonna love college. They might even go to some classes too!

Kristie’s family got to come down from Boise to spend a great 4th of July weekend with us. Despite threats of rain, we were able to spend the majority of it out in the sun (which made for a very happy tommy). On Friday morning we packed food, frisbees and longboards for a picnic at Rock Canyon Park. Here are a few pictures from lunch and riding down the canyon:

That night we went out for Thai, then got sucked into a Twilight Zone marathon on TV.

Saturday morning we went to Provo’s annual 4th of July parade, where we got to catch up with Jeriann, and her adorable daughter Ruthie.

Later that afternoon we grabbed lunch and then set up a blanket on the lower MTC lawn, which gave us a pretty awesome view of the fireworks over the Stadium of Fire.

[before you compliment me on my photography skills, I must disclose that I didn't take the above picture]

The traffic was so congested after the show, that we ended up falling asleep in the blankets while waiting for things to clear up. Cole and I made it back pretty quickly however, riding seated on longboards (bobsled style) down the 2 mile winding roads to our apartment.

This week Kristie was recruited by an employee of the Runner’s Corner to join their marathon team. They heard about her qualifying time for the Boston Marathon, and were really impressed by the fact that she got it on her very first one. She’ll be training with a bunch of former college athletes and running junkies who think they can take her raw talent and really boost her her performance with proper training. Besides the camaraderie of joining the team, it was pretty cool for her to get a bunch of free running stuff too.

Turns out that two other members of the team will be running the Boston Marathon in April too, so she’ll have a few friends on the course (as well as a rowdy group of fans that will be off of it!). I’m so proud of her…anyone that knows Kristie knows that she loves running, and her dedication really shows.
