T-Ron vs. Achilles

No, not the greek one. My main man Theron had a nasty accident playing soccer and tore his achilles tendon. It required surgery, so he’s laid up for a few months. We’re hoping his recovery is akin to that of the pitcher in “Rookie of the Year,” where a shortened tendon will give him mad hops or something. Feel better buddy!

Kristie Gets Sponsored!

This week Kristie was recruited by an employee of the Runner’s Corner to join their marathon team. They heard about her qualifying time for the Boston Marathon, and were really impressed by the fact that she got it on her very first one. She’ll be training with a bunch of former college athletes and running junkies who think they can take her raw talent and really boost her her performance with proper training. Besides the camaraderie of joining the team, it was pretty cool for her to get a bunch of free running stuff too.

Turns out that two other members of the team will be running the Boston Marathon in April too, so she’ll have a few friends on the course (as well as a rowdy group of fans that will be off of it!). I’m so proud of her…anyone that knows Kristie knows that she loves running, and her dedication really shows.

Cougs and cousins

Tonight we caught some of the BYU men’s b-ball game at the Marriott Center before taking off to play volleyball with Nathan and Kendra and some friends. Unfortunately, the locks to the building had been changed, so we never got a chance to play. Around that time, Kristie’s cousin Tiffany called to let us know she was in town and needed a place to crash. Of course we were more than happy…but we ended up going over to Nathan and Kendra’s, staying up till 3:00am and crashing there.

Brownie Points

A while back, my buddy Nathan and I began hatching a plan to treat our wives to a surprise ladies night spa/shopping spree. The whole thing went down like this:

On Saturday, I told Nathan’s wife, Kendra, that I was planning on doing something special (a surprise) for Kristie and that I was going to need her help. I asked her to find an excuse to get Kristie up to Orem where she would need to deliver an envelope at a specific time. She agreed and set it all up. What Kendra didn’t know was that Nathan was in on it too, and the envelope she was delivering to Kristie contained a note from each of us to our wives, including a two-hour day spa massage/jacuzzi package and some cash to offset the alarming downward trend in consumer spending that’s fueling the meltdown of our precarious situated global economy.

So when Kendra handed over the envelope they we’re both totally taken by surprise by its contents. They had just enough time to get dinner before basking in two hours of luxury at the spa, which, I imagine, had rooms full of Swedish masseuse extraordinaires with names like Sven and Olaf, waiting on you hand and foot. If you’d like, you can read Kendra’s account here, which includes actual details (not just speculation) and a few pictures.

I’m learning fast that these types of overly-romantic gestures pay serious dividends. Woot woot.

Saturday recap

Today was Saturday the 27th of September, heretofore known as Michael Davis Day, in honor of his visit. It’s not everyday someone that good-looking just waltzes into town.

In other exciting news, I got to watch Kristie coach her first White Squad game tonight at the BYU vs. Air Force volleyball game. She’s a pro and the team looked great. I’m really proud of how she’s stepped into this role, she really puts a lot of time and heart into what she does.

No football game this week…bye-week for the Cougars. Major withdrawls.

Sushi and Hancock

Nathan and Kendra joined us for a little sushi-and-movie date night tonight. I was debating whether we should rent Memoirs of a Geisha to keep with the Japanese theme, but then decided against it, since my sushi is about as authentic as the Chinese cast members of Memoirs. Instead we saw the half-good Hancock at the dollar theater.

I wish we got a good picture of N&K too, but they ended up with the camera while our hands were busy with the rolls. The evening got particularly exciting as we all had some “death by wasabi” close encounters.

Vizad BBQ

That’s my “V” for Vizad

Jen and Preston hosted another company BBQ/shindig at their new house in Lehi tonight. We got to eat, mix and mingle while wii boxing and discussing some exciting business–the beta launch of or much anticipated LotusJump SEO tool. It’s gonna be big I tellz ya.

Game 4: Wyoming @ BYU (and weekend recap)

Friday night we went out with Houston, Amanda, Leah and her date (Houston’s bro) to The Mayan in SLC. The place was enormous…complete with live cliff divers as part of the restaurant’s “Mayan adventure” theme.

On Saturday we got to witness the Cougars shut out the Cowboys 44-0 at Lavell Edwards Stadium. It was beautiful. It was also the first time we sat in our actual seats, since we had sideline passes for the first two home games. Our seats are located on the west side, pretty far up…but they give you a terrific view of the field. Another benefit is that, due to the press box, we’re the first to get shade from the sun during the sweltering afternoon games.

Saturday night we went out with Grant and his date, who turned out to be Tracy, the younger sister of my longtime friend, Jody Farnsworth. Small world.

Sunday we cooked an amazing pork roast for 8 hours and ate like kings (thanks AJ). And to top off the evening we dropped by Harry and Sarah’s pizza night for a couple slices (who could resist?) and Dan in Real Life.

Mexi Night

Before heading off to the Mexi date-night that Harry and Sarah had been planning, Kristie and I got to meet up with a bunch of her Eagle friends for dinner at Costa Vida. It was great catching up with all of them…they’re a blast.

After the get-together we headed to the Colony for Harry’s homemade salsa & enchiladas and Sarah’s homemade horchata. The food was terrific (we made sure to leave plenty of room). Here’s a shot of Dan, Harry and Sarah:

To top off the evening’s entertainment we watched a Mexican film entitled La misma luna, or Under the Same Moon. If you tend to enjoy foreign films, I’d check it out…definitely worth watching.

Massachusetts Bound!

We got plane tickets to travel back to MA on July 30th!!!

For a (belated) Massachusetts wedding reception my family will host a poolside open house for friends and family. We can’t wait to see everyone again…we haven’t been back east since getting married in February. We’re excited to have Kristie’s family, the Steven’s and Tanner’s, come all the way out too! I’ll write more on this later.

The second leg of the trip will be a family vacation to Cape May to spend some time on the beach with all the McConnon’s. Mom, Dad, Andrew, Coleman me and Kristie…it’s gonna be awesome.
